Khao Daeng Viewpoint is a short, steep hilltop trail in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, about 60 km south of Hua Hin, with panoramic views of jagged limestone peaks, the Khao Daeng canal and the sea. It is open daily 8:00 AM–3:30 PM, and with a private driver it pairs easily with the nearby caves.
Khao Daeng Viewpoint: the classic Sam Roi Yot panorama
Khao Sam Roi Yot means the mountain of three hundred peaks, and Khao Daeng shows you why. From the summit you look across sharp limestone ridges rising from mangroves, shrimp ponds and the winding Khao Daeng canal, with the Gulf of Thailand beyond. It is the view most often used to represent the park.
The trail starts near the park headquarters and the fishing village of Khao Daeng. The climb is short but rewarding, and it gives you a sense of the whole national park, which protects coastal marsh, forest and caves along this stretch of Prachuap Khiri Khan. Local boats on the canal also offer trips through the mangroves.
What to see
The path climbs over rocky steps and sharp limestone to a lower viewpoint and then a higher one. The upper platform gives the full sweep of peaks and coastline, while the lower stop is a good turnaround point if you prefer a shorter walk. Railings and steps help on the steeper sections, and each stop shows the peaks over the marsh from a new angle.
Watch for wildlife: dusky langurs, with their pale-ringed eyes, live in the park and are sometimes seen on the slopes, along with long-tailed macaques. Keep a respectful distance. Back at the bottom, the canal and mangrove edge are pleasant for a short stroll and photographs of fishing boats, and the village has small shops selling cold drinks.

Best time to visit and how long to stay
Note the early close at 3:30 PM. Morning is the most comfortable time to climb, with softer light over the peaks and less heat coming off the rock. Midday can be harsh, so if you come after Phraya Nakhon Cave, bring plenty of water, take it slowly and leave enough time to descend before closing.
Allow about an hour for the climb, time at the top and the descent. Visibility is best on clear days in the cool season from November to February; in the hot months, haze can soften the far peaks. The rainy season brings greener slopes but slicker rock, so allow extra time coming down and check with park staff at the bottom that the trail is open.
Practical tips
The limestone is sharp and uneven, so wear closed shoes with good grip, not sandals, and keep a hand free for balance; a small daypack helps. Bring water, a hat and sunscreen, as the summit has little shade. Take extra care on the way down, when tired legs slip more easily.
The steep, rocky steps are not suited to visitors with limited mobility or small children. If someone in your group would rather skip the climb, the canal side at the bottom is a pleasant place to wait. Keep food out of sight of the monkeys. Your driver can park close to the trailhead, with cold drinks waiting in the car.
Combine it with nearby places in Sam Roi Yot
Khao Daeng is close to the park headquarters, which makes it a natural partner for Phraya Nakhon Cave in the morning and Bueng Bua‘s flat boardwalk afterwards. All three are in the same part of the park, so the drives between them are short. A common order is the cave, then Khao Daeng, then lunch, finishing with the gentle Bueng Bua boardwalk.
For wildlife, continue to Kui Buri National Park in the afternoon, where ranger-led elephant watching starts at 2:00 PM. Kui Buri lies inland to the west, roughly an hour’s drive from the Sam Roi Yot area. Your driver will plan the order so that each stop fits its opening hours and you reach Kui Buri after it opens.
Make it a private day trip
Zone B from 600 THB per car, with a driver who waits while you visit.
